Saying Bitcoin isn't driving climate change directly is a bit like saying Lambos aren't the main drivers of air pollution/fossil fuel consumption. It's technically true, but it misses the point. The more successful Bitcoin becomes, the more it becomes environementally damaging, that's just how it's built. Switching to Proof of Stake and looking for other proof schemes which were not based literally on trying to make spam too wasteful and expensive to send is the only way out of the percieved and actual problems with Proof of Work.
Bitcoin isn't as bad as driving cars, growing food, building housing, etc., but then, it doesn't solve any of those material problems. It just adds to the environmental load without managing to be so much as a medium of exchange, and if it became a medium of exchange it would be even worse. As infrastructure switched to renewables, and coal becomes cheaper, Bitcoin is drawn to keeping that old infrastructure alive, which is probably the worst thing it does. Proof of Work can only ever bring the heat death of the universe closer -- that's what it was designed to do.
