I meant more that this occurs than describes all poor whites — yaknow hashtag-not-all-white-trash — ;) but I myself came from a poor white family that was pretty strongly antiracist, if often ignorant in how to go about it. I’ve just also known people who simply could not lose their whiteness, and would die to keep it, because they had nothing else that made them feel worth anything. IME those people are deployed in the service of the other people you’re talking about and it pisses me off to no end.
